BVB clearly waddles Zwayer’s offer

He made a mistake as a young man, says referee Felix Zwayer. However, he considers it inappropriate for BVB professional Jude Bellingham to attack him for this reason. Zwayer, whose lock the DFB had kept secret for years, does not want to put an ad.

For referee Felix Zwayer, the verbal attack by football professional Jude Bellingham has not yet been checked – but the Berlin referee is not planning any legal action. “I would like to clarify that in a personal conversation with Jude Bellingham and I offered one to Borussia Dortmund,” Zwayer told the “Bild” newspaper.

That evening, however, BVB managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke refused – with reference to Zwayer’s interview. “If Mr Zwayer sends me and Michael Zorc (BVB sports director, editor) a letter today and encourages a conversation, you can discuss it,” said Watzke on Amazon Prime: “But if I do the same thing an hour later reading the media, with original quotes, I have to say quite honestly: I don’t have any confidential talks with anyone an hour later I have it somewhere on the boulevard. It doesn’t work that way. I don’t see any great chance of realization. “

Zwayer had emphasized that he did not want to obtain any further “punishment” for Bellingham, it was “about the realization that he had gone too far. I would accept a sincere apology.” The sports court of the German Football Association (DFB) had previously pronounced its verdict, Bellingham was fined 40,000 euros for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Bellingham points to 2004

The 18-year-old had tackled Zwayer hard after the top match between BVB and Bayern Munich (2: 3). “You give a referee who has already postponed games the biggest game in Germany. What do you expect?” Said Bellingham after the final whistle. The Englishman was referring to events that occurred 17 years ago. In 2004, according to the files, Zwayer had accepted money as an assistant from the mastermind Robert Hoyzer. He later uncovered the scandal, and despite the ban, manipulation was never proven.

Zwayer now also emphasized: “As a young man I made the mistake of not reporting an incident immediately, but only after considering it too long. That was wrong and I was punished for it. But it must be good.”

“Anyone who has ever accepted money …”

The story also includes the fact that the DFB did not publish the verdict against Zwayer for nine years and instead intensively promoted the referee, whose behavior he had previously classified as “grossly contrary to sport” and “the game manipulation of Robert Hoyzer known to him over a long period of time” did not report. Zwayer accepted the judgment at the time, the public prosecutor dropped the criminal proceedings against payment of a fine, but “with not inconsiderable concerns”, as the “Zeit” reported.

Manuel Gräfe, who involuntarily had to end his career as a Bundesliga referee in the summer due to the age rule, was also involved in uncovering the Hoyzer manipulations. He has slowly been considered one of Zwayer’s harshest critics and his rise to the top referee category of the DFB. Only a few months ago he made his point of view clear: “Anyone who has accepted money and kept Hoyzer’s manipulation secret for half a year shouldn’t whistle in professional football.”

Nonetheless, Zwayer feels that Bellingham’s comment is “personal, disparaging and disrespectful”, that it has “an insulting and defamatory character” and “shouldn’t be left standing like that”. The “radiance” on the amateur sector should also be considered. “I’m concerned about the brutality in dealing with all referees – including myself – off the pitch, especially on social media,” said Zwayer: “I personally wonder where respect and fair play remain.”
