With its new Bbox equipped with Wi-Fi 6E technology, Bouygues Telecom will explore the lands of tri-band. Its next modem comes out on April 25.

As often, operators like to bicker and quarrel with each other when it comes time to make a big announcement. This time, we find Bouygues Telecom and Orange in the battle. Bouygues Telecom is officially the first to draw the long-awaited Wi-Fi 6E technology, with the formalization this Tuesday, April 5 of a Bbox modem which will not change in form, but in substance. Explanations.

Wi-Fi 6E integrated in the latest Bouygues Telecom Bbox

From April 25, 2022, all new Bbox ultym Fiber customers from Bouygues Telecom (the operator’s top-of-the-range offer, at 28.99 euros per month for one year) will be able to discover the first Wi-Fi 6E modem announced on the market. French. The arrival of this technology sounded obvious since the announcement by ARCEP, on December 6, to open a new frequency band in the 6 GHz range.

This frequency band, which increases the speed available to the subscriber, is added on the Bbox to the now traditional 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. All three will coexist together, to make Bouygues Telecom’s Bbox Fiber Wi-Fi 6 “tri-band”.

It was essential for Bouygues Telecom to integrate Wi-Fi 6E to enable [aux abonnés] to benefit from the latest generation of Wi-Fi “, explains Benoit Torloting, CEO of Bouygues Telecom. ” Our ambition is to offer quality networks to everyone, and we know that Wi-Fi is a key element in the digital lives of our customers. »

More a technological update than a novelty for Bouygues, which still trolls the announcement of Orange

The design of this modem is exactly the same as the Bbox Wi-Fi 6 released in early 2020. At the time, Bouygues Telecom had already designed it to be able to easily integrate technological developments such as Wi-Fi 6E. The operator indicates for example that ” the number of parts is limited to a two-piece hull and a chassis », and that no glue was used.

The Bbox, thanks to its vertical shape, will limit interference with the 8 antennas, which will further improve coverage within the subscriber’s home. In addition to greater speed, lower latency and less interference, the advantage of Wi-Fi 6E is also to offer more connections simultaneously.

In the game of communication, and for a reason that we can not really explain, Bouygues Telecom has literally grilled the politeness to Orange. The incumbent had indeed planned to formalize its Livebox 6 a day later, on Wednesday, even if (too) many details have already leaked on the networks and in the press, such as the presence of Wi-Fi 6.

Be careful, don’t get me wrong, we can’t tell you if Wi-Fi “6E” in particular will be embedded in the Livebox. There is a one in two chance, to tell the truth, and you will have an answer from April 6 in the morning on Clubic, it is promised.
