BeetlejuiceBeetlejuicemillionaire! This is Tim Burton’s fourteenth millionaire film in France (out of 20 feature films). For the record, the first Beetlejuice ended its career with 628,458 admissions. With a cumulative total of 1,236,222 tickets sold to date, it is almost double the first.
What start for Megalopolis ? Francis Ford Coppola records more than 136,000 entries in one week. The filmmaker must be satisfied with 5th place. He faces strong challengers (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and the unbeatable Count of Monte Cristo in particular) and competition from another novelty, The lucky one (206,000 entries), 2nd in the Top 10.
Megalopolis is starting well beyond its two previous feature films released in France (but with a lower budget), Tetro (102,108 admissions in one week, in 2009) and Twixt (51,284 admissions in one week, in 2012).
Nothing stops The Count of Monte Cristo!
For The Count of Monte Cristo, the success story continues! With a total of 8,693,527 spectators captivated by his story of revenge, The Count of Monte Cristo is the second biggest success of the year in French cinemas. In front of Vice Versa 2, which it has just supplanted, and behind A Little Something Extra, which should not have been caught up. But the gap is closing.
The film led by Pierre Niney still has enough energy to reach the nine million mark by surpassing, on the road, Amélie Poulain, Asterix and Obélix against César or Emmanuelle (1974). He is closing in on the Top 20 of all time.
Its ability to resist the many new releases that stood in its way and the fact that its video edition is only expected for November 6 suggest that its journey is far from over. In fourth place, The Wire now exceeds 500,000 spectators.
Among the continuation films, Emilia Perez9th, is very close to one million entries, with a total of 933,939 tickets sold. Speak No Evil closes the ranking and exceeds the threshold of 200,000 entries.
Outside the Top 10, Emmanuelle is 14th. A score well below expectations for a film which was to be an event, bringing back to life the mythical and erotic first name, born on the big screen 40 years ago.
The film directed by Audrey Diwan recorded less than 45,000 admissions. Its final score should be around 100,000 admissions, i.e. lower figures than The Event, the filmmaker’s previous feature film.
A little something extra, which is no longer part of the Top 10 – which it occupied for twenty consecutive weeks – is now in 15th place, just behind Emmanuelle.
