Tom Cruise once again at the top of the box office. For its first weekend of operation, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 generated $235 million worldwide. A record start, however, qualified by an American score below expectations.
Less good than fallout And MI2
Released Wednesday, July 12 on American soil — instead of Friday, more usual in the United States — the seventh installment of the franchise Impossible mission gleaned 56.2 million (estimates) over the weekend, and 80 million over its first five days. A figure below the estimates which counted on nearly 90 million.
If the total of the first week makes you smile, the weekend alone makes Dead Reckoning Part 1 the third-best start in the saga only, behind fallout (61.2) and Mission: Impossible 2 (57). To sharpen the comparison, in 2000, the second installment was also released on a Wednesday, and raked in $78.8 million in its first five days.
Let the fans be reassured, if this Mission: Impossible 7 is not unstoppable in the United States, it performs globally. The film totaled $235 million worldwide at the end of its first weekend, far ahead of the 214.7 million fallouta record for the franchise.
Dead Reckoning Part 1 can in any case hope for a long life in the weeks to come, which is one of the hallmarks of the saga led by Tom Cruise. A success that will also depend on the big releases next weekend — Barbie And Oppenheimer – which will obviously attract spectators to the film.
With a colossal budget of $300 million, Ethan Hunt’s latest adventure hopes to (at least) reach the heights of fallout ($791 million worldwide). Will she make it? Response within the next few weeks.
In the rest of the box office, the Christian film Sound of Freedom confirms its great success with a second weekend at $27 million, and Elementary from Pixar Studios is holding up surprisingly well with a drop of only 13% for its fifth week. Indiana Jones 5 reached only 300 million dollars worldwide, confirming its failure.
