Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic is doing as well as Top Gun: Maverick at the US box office this week.
Screened in 3906 cinemas, Elvis totaled 30.5 million dollars while the sequel to the film carried by Tom Cruise also recorded 30.5 million greenbacks for a presence on 3948 screens for its 5th weekend of exploitation.

The feature film directed by Joseph Kosinski has just crossed the bar of 4 million admissions in France.
Top Gun: Maverick thus exceeds one billion dollars at the international box office and becomes the biggest success of Tom Cruise’s career. It is the first film of 2022 to exceed one billion at the worldwide box office. (Doctor Strange 2 currently registers 947 million dollars at the international soundtrack)
Jurassic World: The World After is placed in second position with 26 million dollars in revenue made this weekend on American territory, thus bringing the last part of Colin Trevorrow’s trilogy to 302 million dollars in US and $746 million internationally.
Note that the feature film crossed the $100 million mark in China last Thursday, becoming the first Hollywood film to reach this threshold since Godzilla Vs. Kong at the start of 2021.

Scott Derickson’s (Doctor Strange) horror thriller, Black Phone is on the third step of the podium with more than 23 million green tickets for its first weekend of operation.
Released in our theaters last Wednesday, the film worn by Ethan Hawke follows Finney Shaw, a 13-year-old teenager kidnapped by a sadistic killer who locks him in a basement. When a phone hanging on the wall, yet out of order, starts ringing, Finney will discover that he is in contact with the voices of the previous victims of his captor. They are as dead as they are determined that their sad fate will not become that of Finney.
This is the first time in a long time that the first 4 films at the US box office have all exceeded 20 million dollars in receipts in one weekend. According to analysts, these results are due to the return to theaters of 18-34 year olds, who represent 64% of spectators.
Buzz Lightyear, the latest film from Pixar studios is in fourth position with 17.7 million green tickets for its second weekend. The film derived from Toy Story therefore totals, since its release, 88.7 million at the US box office. It’s the first Pixar film to hit theaters since the pandemic began.
Doctor Strange 2 is a close second with an additional $1.7 million recorded this weekend. Sam Raimi’s film has therefore totaled $409 million at the US box office since its release.
The Indian film Jugjugg Jeeyo made $725,000 for its first weekend and took 7th place just ahead of Everything Everywhere All at Once, which now totals $66 million on American soil.
Bob’s Burgers: the movie and The Bad Guys come to close this TOP 10 with respectively 513,000 dollars (for a total of 31 million $) and 440,000 greenbacks (95 million made in the United States alone).
