Mike Tyson recently confided in his youth and in particular the death of his mother in a rather surprising way.
When he speaks, it’s never for nothing. For some time now, the American boxer, world heavyweight champion in the 1980s and 1990s, has liked to share the exciting and tragic moments of his life. And this time he decided to talk about his mother.
“You know, one of the best things that ever happened to me was when my mom died,” Iron Mike told the Club Shay Shay podcast. Because my mother would have made me a baby. I would never have gotten into street fights. No way I’m learning to defend myself. My mother really did a lot. Always coming to the police station to save my ass. She was kicking my ass so hard, in front of the police.”
55-year-old Mike Tyson, who returned to the boxing rings in an exhibition fight against Roy Jones Jr in November 2020, lost his mother, Lorna Smith Tyson in 1982, when he was only 16 years old.
“I never saw my mom happy with me and proud of me,” Tyson also said. She only knew me as a wild child running through the streets and coming home with new clothes that she knew I hadn’t paid for. I never had the chance to speak to him.”
The American, who will become a professional boxer three years after the death of his mother, had already been arrested nearly forty times by the police and sent to a home for young people.
