French boxer Nordine Oubaali announced on Tuesday that he was retiring after having notably held the WBC world belt between 2019 and 2021.
France loses one of its best representatives in the ring. At 35, the Northerner revealed his decision in an interview relayed by Le Figaro.
Considered one of the best French boxers in history, Nordine Oubaali, suffering from diplopia (vision disorder) after an eye accident in October 2018, held the WBC bantamweight world champion belt between 2019 and 2021.
Before this title, the one which is the 13and from a family of 18 children, won bronze at the Chicago Amateur Worlds in 2007. In total, he will compete in 206 amateur fights for 187 successes.
He will turn pro in March 2014 and will play 18 fights for 17 victories (12 by KO) and only one defeat. This setback, Oubaali, who had the prestigious Top Rank as a promoter, took place in May 2021, in California against Nonito Donaire on abandonment.
“I lived in the ring my most beautiful memories of an athlete, painful moments too. I wrote my story and learned to pass it on, he explained. It is a decision carefully considered to have no regrets.
