Salzburg votes! Who will be the new Federal President and thus open the festival next year? 54,000 voting cards from Salzburg will only be counted on Monday.

Exactly 392,684 Salzburg residents are entitled to vote in the election of the Federal President on Sunday. Of these, 54,375 Salzburg residents have applied for an absentee ballot and some have already voted. The voting cards could be sent by post. In Muhr, for example, it closes at 12 p.m., Dorfbeuern and Berndorf close at 1 p.m. In the state capital, all polling stations are open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Citizens have received the data in their personal election information. The first results can then be expected around 5:30 p.m. However, this does not include the more than 50,000 voting cards. These are only counted on Monday and can only be extrapolated on Sunday, which will be difficult. For most of the seven candidates, there are still no comparative values ​​​​from previous elections. In 2016 in Salzburg, he received 19.42 percent of the votes in the first ballot – far behind the Freedomist Norbert Hofer (37.35). Van der Bellen was only able to win a narrow majority in Salzburg when the runoff was repeated. If there is no runoff this time, Salzburg will already know on Sunday or Monday who will open the festival next summer.
