Bpifrance launches its second fund open to individuals

We set up an appointment with the French “, welcomed this February 16 Nicolas Dufourcq, the general manager of Bpifrance, during a press conference. Eighteen months after the launch of its first consumer fund, Bpifrance Entreprises 1 (BE1), which met with great success, the public investment bank is repeating the experience. Since this Wednesday, individuals can acquire shares in the BE2 fundsa large portfolio comprising, like the first, more than 1,500 companies.

Stratospheric yield

To attract more savers “and build up the fund as much as possible », the entrance ticket was lowered to 3,000 euros per share (instead of 5,000 euros for BPE1). ” We absolutely want to democratize private equity [investissement dans les entreprises] in Franceinsisted Nicolas Dufourcq. It is no longer possible to reserve it for a wealthy part of the population “. Not so long ago, this type of investment indeed required a five-figure starting bet (at least 50,000 euros per share). It also made it possible to reduce wealth tax (ISF-SME scheme). The arrival of crowdfunding has begun the democratization of this investment… to the delight (or not) of individuals who bet on this product.

The Bpi funds (BE1 and BE2) rely on 5 to 7% annual return (not guaranteed of course). But in reality, ” for BE1, we are well beyond, revealed the general manager of the Bpi. After one year, the performance was 40% ! “. Something to make any investor dream… Of course, this investment is not without risk, the underlying being solely based on business activity. But this risk is largely pooled.

1,500 companies

This second fund launched today by the Bpi uses the same operating principles as its predecessor: it is a mutual risk investment fund (FCPR) made up of 126 underlying funds (in which Bpifrance has also invested), managed by 76 French management companies, including two funds strictly managed by Bpi itself (and this is a novelty compared to the first).

In total, approximately 1,500 companies (medium-sized, SMEs and start-ups), mostly French, make up this huge portfolio, all created between 2009 and 2017. “ Each individual who invests 3,000 euros in the fund will mobilize two euros for each of these companies “, detailed Nicolas Dufourcq. Mostly French (69% of them), they evolve in many fields (technology, health, services to companies, consumption, etc.). ” You will find there the most beautiful signatures of French entrepreneurial development “.

How to subscribe to Bpifrance Entreprises 2?

Here again, the approach is the same as for BE1. Individuals wishing to buy BE2 shares have two options:

– acquire them directly, via the fund manager and partner of the Bpi, 123 Venture, https://fonds-bpifrance.123-im.com. It is then placed in a securities account or a PEA-PME, as desired.

– subscribe to the fund via their life insurance or retirement savings plan (PER), via their banking network, their wealth management advisor, etc. It is then a unit of account (UA).

Exit taxation depends on the medium in which you have invested “, explains the director general of the Bpi, Nicolas Dufourcq. Directly, the shares are blocked for at least six years and capital gains are exempt from income tax (but not social security contributions at 17.2%). As a unit of account in life insurance or PER, it is the single flat-rate deduction (PFU) at 30% that applies (unless the IR option is more attractive).
