It is well known that Brad Pitt is interested in art. Now he has become a sculptor himself, causing a “flame of joy” in him.

Brad Pitt, 58, appears to have a wide range of interests, working not only as an actor or film producer, but now also publishing art. In Finland, the Hollywood darling showed some of his works in an exhibition by British artist Thomas Houseago, as did musician Nick Cave, 65. With his artwork, he seems to be processing the failed marriage and the War of the Roses with Angelina Jolie, 47, and is now talking about his great passion, which finally brings him joy again.

Brad Pitt is now a sculptor too

Brad Pitt told the Financial Times that he met Thomas Houseago in 2016 and that not only did they become friends because of their shared interest in art, but also that their “common grief” united them and this misery eventually became one “Flame of Joy” became. After the two men met, Brad Pitt was allowed to work in Houseago’s art studio and discovered his passion for artwork. He then curated a joint exhibition with singer Nick Cave and Thomas Houseago, which made its debut in September at the Sara Hilden Art Museum in Finland.

“Trauma and Disaster” reunites Brad Pitt and Thomas Houseago

Thomas Houseago also opens up about the relationship with Pitt and Cave, saying he has a lot in common with them as they all have drug problems in the past. Pitt and Houseago had drinking problems in their lives and Nick Cave was even addicted to heroin in the 80s – and he was afflicted by other dramas: He lost two sons. One died of complications from a cliff fall in 2015 aged just 15 and his other son died in 2022 aged 31, the cause of death is unknown to this day. Brad Pitt is still in a bitter divorce battle with Angelina Jolie. He is accused of being violent towards her and their children. “Trauma and disasters” paved their path in life, Houseago summarizes.

Art as therapy?

Pitt talks about the exhibition and philosophizes about his motivation on the Swedish radio station “Yleisradio”. “For Nick and I, this is a whole new world and our first step. It just feels right. For me, it’s about self-reflection. It’s about what I’ve done wrong in my relationships, where I’ve made missteps, where I’m complicated.” With his works of art, the actor wants to be “brutally honest” in his own judgment and one gets the impression that Brad Pitt is treating himself with his new passion. “I want to take into account those that I may have hurt, moments when I misbehaved.”

He doesn’t mention Jolie’s name, but it should be clear that the past few years have left their mark on him and that he tries to process the failure of his marriage to the Oscar winner in his art.
