Brand start is fixed – Genesis brings this cool convertible to Austria

Design icon Luc Donckerwolke – responsible for both design and brand communication at Genesis – brought a number of European premieres to the design event of the German Car Awards in Munich. And two exclusive announcements: The noble offshoot of the Hyundai Group will also take root in Austria next year. In addition, the electric convertible should definitely go into series production!

It is one of the most eye-catching among the Genesis exhibits in the elegant Drivers & Business Club at Motorworld in Munich. The captivatingly beautiful convertible celebrated its world premiere as a Genesis X Convertible concept car last fall, as the third part of a trilogy that also includes the X Concept Coupé and the X Speedium Coupé, which is actually a Shooting Brake. The electric convertible is coming! Now it’s gone The likeable Belgian was so overwhelmed by the presentation of the exhibits that he was carried away to announce series production: “Yes, we will build it!” However, in limited numbers. The convertible is intended to underline the aura of a desirable luxury brand. Not a single genuine electric convertible is currently available. Apart from the MG Cyberster, not much is to be expected from other brands at the moment either. Perhaps even the X Concept and X Speedium Coupé will one day carry regular number plates. Even Austrian. In any case, the drive will be electric, all three have the same, it comes from the E-GMP kit of the parent company Hyundai. Each axle is driven by an electric motor, with a total of up to 441 kW/600 hp available. The data sheet will probably say around 3.5 seconds for the standard sprint and up to 260 km/h as the top speed. 800-volt technology is used, and a WLTP range of around 500 kilometers can be assumed state capital was brought. This is the sporty variant of the SUV GV80, which already has the new look of the series – inspired by the X trilogy. The GV80 Coupé will go into series production this year. The current Genesis range is already available in Germany. In view of the negative examples of failed noble offshoots such as the Nissan brand Infiniti, it is quite courageous what Hyundai has brought to life here with Genesis. But the Koreans are approaching the project with amazing independence and conviction. “We developed the entire portfolio right from the start,” says Luc Donckerwolke, who has now taken over management of the entire brand in addition to the design department. Normally, one develops one model after the other. A unique selling point of the Genesis brand, in addition to the eye-catching design, is the service: customers should not have to see a workshop. Instead, the vehicles are picked up from the customer and taken to the workshop. Five-year warranty and workshop service including wearing parts is included in the purchase price. And that is below that of the established premium competition.
