Postal voting will again be an option in the 2024 Brandenburg state election. You can read how voting by post works here.

The state election in Brandenburg will take place on September 22nd. To ensure that all eligible voters can cast their vote, even if they cannot appear in person at the polling station on election day, there is the option of postal voting. We will show you how you can use this and what deadlines apply for postal voting.

The postal vote must be received by this date at the latest

The most important thing first: In order for your vote to be valid in the state elections in Brandenburg, your postal voting documents must be received by your responsible electoral office by 6 p.m. on election day, September 22, 2024 at the latest. It is therefore advisable to send the return envelope ideally two weeks before election day. This is to avoid delays in the postal service jeopardizing the timely arrival of your documents. So that you can vote in a relaxed manner, the application for postal voting documents should be submitted before the deadline.

The German Post states that the documents should be sent no later than three working days before the election. In this case, this would be on Thursday morning, September 19, 2024.

Brandenburg state election: How postal voting works

All eligible voters are entitled to participate in the state elections in Brandenburg. The option of postal voting means that voters can do so even if they cannot appear at the polling station on election day.

When you receive your postal voting documents, fill out the ballot paper carefully. You vote by clearly marking the party or candidate of your choice. Be careful not to damage the ballot paper or to invalidate your vote due to unclear markings. After you have made your choice, proceed as follows:

  • Fold the ballot paper and place it in the envelope provided. This will then be sealed tightly to protect the confidentiality of your vote.
  • Fill out the attached ballot paper with your personal information and sign it to certify the validity of your vote.
  • Place the sealed ballot envelope and the signed ballot paper in the larger return envelope. This is labeled with the address of your election authority, so all you have to do is take it to the post office.

Make sure you complete the entire process in a timely manner so that your documents arrive on time before the mail-in voting deadline. By carefully following this process and meeting the deadlines, you can easily participate in the election even from a distance.
