Brave launches Leo, an “anonymous and secure” artificial intelligence

Known for respecting the privacy of its users, in particular by blocking unwanted trackers and advertisements, Brave is a benchmark in the browser market. This effort around confidentiality continues with the introduction of an assistant powered by artificial intelligence called Leo.

What does Leo offer on Brave?

Currently rolling out with version 1.60 of Brave on desktop, and “In the coming months” on iOS and Android, Leo is an AI based on two language models: Llama 2 (Meta) and Claude (Antrhopic).

Available free of charge to all browser users, this artificial intelligence works like a traditional conversational agent, like ChatGPT, Bing Chat or Google Bard. A request is asked and Leo responds; this could be a question, a web page summary or even content generation.

The big strong point of this solution is its confidentiality. The developers specify that conversations are not recorded or used to train AI models, but also that connection information is not necessary to use the chatbot.

To access Leo, simply click on the button in the shape of a conversation bubble with an asterisk in the Brave sidebar. Users can also simply ask a question in the address bar and tap a like button.

Note that a Premium offer from Leo is also announced. For $15/month, artificial intelligence will benefit from more powerful language models: Llama 2 70B and Claude Instant. Other engines will be added later.
