Breast Cancer Month: Touching mastectomy pictures show more than scars

Photographer Charise Isis started her project “Grace” around ten years ago to show the beauty of women and men with breast cancer. After researching the topic, she only came across medical photographic material on the Internet. She missed the emotionality and impact associated with this topic. At first it was difficult to recruit models for her project, but she has now portrayed over 700 protagonists with breast cancer. Since there are around 800 breast cancer diagnoses every day in the United States, she wants to photograph at least 800 people. She gets a little closer to her plan every day.

You can find out more about the project and the photographer here.
