Bridgerton on Netflix: Jack Featherington’s name has already revealed his Season 2 twist

In Season 2 of the Netflix series Bridgerton, the Featherington family’s financial situation was extremely precarious. Head of family Lord Archibald Featherington died in season 1 of the period drama, leaving his family with a lot of debt.

Jack inherited the estate as Archibald’s closest male relative, giving Portia Featherington hope that he would provide financial and social stability. But unfortunately things turned out differently.

Jack’s gem mines in the US were worthless. Despite this, Portia and Jack tried to lure investors into cheating them. However, Colin Bridgerton figured it out. And so Jack was sent back to America penniless.

That’s behind “Cousin Jack”

According to the US magazine Screenrant, his nickname “Cousin Jack” provides a clue to his fate.

The term “cousin jack” was used for Cornish miners, particularly the emigrated miners of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. These emigrated to parts of America and Africa after the mines in England were closed. A “cousin jack” was a miner who was out of mines and in search of new, profitable mines.

However, Jack is only called Cousin Jack by his family, most notably Penelope. Also, “Bridgerton” is set in 1813/1814, before the time when the Cornish miners were called that. It is therefore an Easter Egg for the fans of the series. After all, none of the other characters could deduce Jack’s deceitful intentions, since the term “cousin Jack” was not yet common.
