Bridgerton Season 3: Daphne is out – that’s why the changed cast is a win for the Netflix series

BRIDGERTON

“Bridgerton” Season 3 is about to make big changes. Beloved characters will not appear in the upcoming season. But that’s a win for the Netflix series.

  • In the third season of “Bridgerton” we have to do without some familiar faces from the previous seasons.
  • But what initially sounds like a loss could be a win for the series.
  • The story thus focuses on the really important characters of the series and gives room for new characters to grow.

In the first season of the Netflix romance series Bridgerton, we followed Bridgerton’s oldest daughter, Daphne, as she found love for life. But her story is told. She won’t play a role in the upcoming third season, not least because her actress Phoebe Dynevor’s contract was not renewed.

What will probably shock fans of the series is an opportunity for the plot itself. In the novel series of the same name on which the series is based, each of the eight volumes focuses on the love story of one of the eight Bridgerton siblings. The older and younger siblings also appear again and again in the love stories.

What works well in the book, however, can quickly become confusing in the series. If Daphne was initially the most important person at the ball, she is now only on the edge of the dance floor. That would be weird for viewers of the Netflix production to watch. So it’s not bad if Daphne just doesn’t attend the ball anymore.

This leaves more space for her other siblings who have not yet been able to experience the happiness of love. Season 3 deals with Colin and his romance with his childhood friend Penelope Featherington. If his sister were still interfering in the series, he might not have the stage to establish himself as a character in the “Bridgerton” series.

By leaving the older siblings out of the story and instead bringing the younger siblings, who have been in the background, onto the stage, the series manages to shift focus. As a result, the “loss” of beloved characters does not leave a big gap.

In this way, the series prepares for future seasons in which Francesca, Gregory, and Hyacinth will also play the leading roles. So far, the three have been rather inconspicuous in Netflix production.

If we continued with all eight Bridgertons, their spouses and children on the show, we would have a far too large ensemble cast that would have to accompany us through eight seasons and that would distract from the actual plot.

“Bridgerton” would involve numerous plots to do justice to all of the characters. The series would have the dimensions of fantasy sagas like “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” or “Game of Thrones”. That would be a bit too much and too big for a romantic series.
