  • Season 3 of the historical drama “Bridgerton” returns to the streaming service Netflix.
  • Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington take center stage in the new episodes.
  • In an interview, showrunner Jess Brownell explained why the love story between the two was brought forward.

The Netflix series “Bridgerton” returns to the streaming service with Season 3 and focuses on the love story of Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington.

In Julia Quinn’s book series, this doesn’t appear until the fourth volume, but the series creators prefer it. Why? Showrunner Jess Brownell revealed this to US magazine Variety:

I really feel like Colin and Penelope’s time has come. […] I feel like there are those moments of tension between them, especially in the last season, where Colin is on the verge of realizing that Penelope has feelings for him but doesn’t quite manage it. Rather than letting that momentum stagnate, we wanted to build it into her season. It really felt like the perfect moment to start.

But Benedict fans need not be disappointed. Brownell promised that he will be an important part of Season 3. The series differs from the books because it is an ensemble series. The books would always be about lovers and the siblings might have a little cameo here and there, but they wouldn’t have a full story.

Season 1 and Season 2 stars Daphne, Anthony and Kate will also return in the new episodes, according to Brownell.

If you want to bridge the waiting time until season 3 with other series, we have some alternatives to “Bridgerton”. Otherwise you will definitely find what you are looking for in our Netflix news.
