The second season of the popular romance series “Bridgerton” is the expected mega success for Netflix. It was only announced today that the new episodes on the streaming service have set an internal record. Simone Ashley (plays Kate Sharma) and Jonathan Bailey (Anthony Bridgerton) became the new main actors in season 2 – replacing the retired Regé Jean Page and Phoebe Dynevor, who was “degraded” to a guest role.
This is also quite consistent in the “Bridgerton” universe, since each volume of Julia Quinn’s book template focuses on a different member of the eponymous family. Judging from the novels, Season 3 would be Luke Thompson’s turn as Benedict Bridgerton.
But does that mean Simone Ashley won’t be starring as Kate Sharma in Season 3? Not at all!
Simone Ashley confirms Season 3 return
“Bridgerton” newcomer Simone Ashley reported to industry insiders Deadline that that she will return for the new episodes on Netflix alongside Jonathan Bailey.
“We’ll be back! Kate and Anthony are just getting started,” revealed Ashley.
Accordingly, Kate Sharma will be the (female) head of the Bridgerton household in the new Season 3 episodes. “I’m happy that [Kate] has a home and a family. I look forward to seeing them grow,” Ashley explained.
Of course, on a story level, Kate Sharma’s return in Season 3 makes a lot of sense too. Because unlike Daphne Bridgerton, embodied by Phoebe Dynevor, Kate naturally stays at the Bridgerton estate after her home – as is traditional for wives in 1814.
For Season 3, actress Simone Ashley also hopes that her character Kate Sharma will be “a lot braver” and listen to her heart more. “I’d love to see Kate loosen up a bit and be more playful in Season 3 and swim in this circle of love together,” Ashley said.
