  • Will Bridget Jones Return Anytime Soon?
  • According to book and screenwriter Helen Fielding, she is currently planning a fourth film about the chaotic Bridget Jones.
  • The film is said to be based on the 2013 novel There’s That Mad About Him, published in 2013, in which Bridget falls in love with a much younger man.

Get your tissues out and open that chocolate wrapper because it looks like Bridget Jones is back. The author of the popular romantic comedy Helen Fielding has announced that she is working on a fourth feature film about the life of the lost bachelorette Bridget Jones.

In an interview with Britain’s Radio Times Podcast, Fielding, who wrote not only the books but also the screenplays for Bridget Jones, says the new film will be adapted from her 2013 book, There’s That Mad About Him.

In the book, mum-of-two Bridget is newly widowed and trying to find her way back to life. She meets a much younger man who turns her everyday life upside down.

I’m working on it and I really hope it will happen. Every film that is made is a miracle. It’s really difficult to make films and do them well. But I would like to see it on screen.

In 2019 there were rumors about a possible film sequel to “Bridget Jones”. Lead actress and Oscar winner Renée Zellweger joked at the time that this film should tell about her character’s menopause, considering her age. She also announced that she’d be ready to reprise her role as Bridget Jones anytime.

The first part of the three-film series was released in 2001 under the title “Bridget Jones – Chocolate for Breakfast”. In the film, two men, Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) and Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant), fight for the heart of Bridget Jones (Renée Zellweger).

After the success of the first film, the sequel “Bridget Jones – On the Edge of Madness” followed in 2004 and in 2016 the last film “Bridget Jones’ Baby”.

When the new film can be expected is currently not foreseeable. From what Helen Fielding says, actual production will be some time away. “Bridget Jones”-Renée Zellweger can currently be seen in the mini-series “The Thing About Pam” on RTL+.
