If you make clever use of the bridging days in 2021, you will get the most out of your vacation! You can easily double the days off – so it pays to plan early.

In 2021, the holidays won't mean well to us – many of them will fall again on a weekend. Nevertheless, it is worthwhile to start planning your vacation early. Because the year still has a few bridging days in store for us. And if you use this cleverly, you can extend your vacation a little …

Some holidays are only valid in certain federal states, but even if you look at the whole, it's worth it: According to 'Travelcircus' you can even more than double your days off throughout Germany if you plan cleverly. We give a couple of examples.

Easter 2021

  • Holidays: April 2nd, 5th
  • Required vacation days: 8
  • Days off: 14

In 2021, Easter falls in April, Good Friday is April 2nd, Easter Monday is April 5th. For two full weeks off you only need eight instead of ten days of vacation – and you're lucky enough to catch the first spring temperatures of the year.

Bridging day on Ascension Day

  • Public holiday: 13.5.
  • Required vacation day: 1
  • Days off: 4

Unfortunately, May 1st falls on a Saturday – but on the Friday after Ascension you can take a wonderful bridge day and have a long weekend of four days.

Whitsun is worthwhile for some federal states

  • Holidays: 24.5. (nationwide), 3.6. (only in some federal states see below)
  • Required vacation days: 8
  • days off: 14

May 24th is Whit Monday. This is a national holiday. In Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland, however, Corpus Christi, June 3, is also free. Those who live in these federal states can therefore take an extended Whitsun leave at the end of May by getting two weeks off for eight days off. Otherwise, only Friday, June 4th, can be used as a bridging day and you have a long four-day weekend.

All Saints' Day is the only autumn holiday

Autumn looks gloomy in terms of the holidays in 2021: Both the Day of German Unity on October 3 and Reformation Day on October 31 fall on a Sunday. But November 1st is a Monday. However, All Saints' Day is only a public holiday in Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland. In these federal states, however, there is another chance to have a whole week off with just four days of vacation.

No bridging days over Christmas and New Year's Eve 2021

Well, what can we say, the Christmas days are not getting any better as far as the holidays are concerned: Christmas Eve falls on a Friday, so the Christmas holidays are on the weekend. So there is no way to save on vacation on long days – but things will look better again in 2022 …
