You can never have enough vacations. Those who use the bridging days in 2022 wisely can stretch their holidays.

For people who are hungry for holidays and looking for relaxation, the current year has turned out to be a disappointment: The virus is still torpedoing our travel plans, and then many holidays fall on a weekend – not just the Day of German Unity on October 3rd, this year is celebrated on a Sunday.

Unfortunately, things don’t look much better in 2022, because next year holidays will fall on a weekend. But there are a few bright spots! It is therefore worthwhile to familiarize yourself with the bridging days in 2022.

What are the holidays in 2022?

The new year begins with a little disappointment: New year falls on a Saturday. The New Year’s Eve weekend will be like a normal weekend of going out – celebrate Saturday, sleep in on Sunday. And Labor Day on May 1st is also hostile to employees: like Christmas Day, it falls on a Sunday. At least a step forward to 2021, where both Christmas holidays are on a weekend.

Holidays and bridging days 2022: The flops

  • New Year: Saturday, January 1st, 2022
  • Labor Day: Sunday, May 1st, 2022
  • 1st Christmas Holiday: Sunday, December 25th, 2022

But now finally to the good news: The holidays for employees are not as unfavorable as in 2021: in the coming year, they will not. At least the two public holidays in October fall on a Monday.

Plan your vacation cleverly

If you do not live in federal states with a lot of public holidays such as Bavaria or Saxony, you can extend your vacation for the next year in this way: In the two weeks before and after Easter With only 8 days of vacation you get 16 days off (instead of 12 days). In the Pentecost week With 4 vacation days you get 9 days vacation (instead of 6 days). In the weeks with the Day of German unity and the 2nd Christmas Day the same applies in each case.

We wish everyone a good rest and a happy 2022!
