The Baftas are considered the most important British film awards and, after the Golden Globes and Oscars, one of the most important awards in the film industry. In this year’s edition, the German war drama “Nothing New in the West” is the big winner. The film won a total of seven awards, including in the categories “Best Film” and “Best Director”. The film music by the composer Volker Bertelmann was also honored with a Bafta.
The surprises are the winners in the categories for the best leading role, where Cate Blanchett “Tár” and Austin Butler “Elvis” were awarded. The second, visibly moved, thanked the Presley family for their trust. The favorites for the coveted trophy were actually Michelle Yeoh “Everything everywehre all at once” and Colin Farrell “The Banshees of Inisherin”.
Overall, the films “Elvis” and “The Banshees of Inisherin” also won four award categories. On the other hand, the fantasy film “Everything everywhere all at once” was only awarded one prize, despite ten nominations, for best editing.
The awards ceremony took place at London’s Royal Festival Hall and was moderated by actor Richard E. Grant. Heir to the throne Prince William and his wife Kate were also guests. The Oscars will be held in Los Angeles in two weeks, but in recent years the Baftas have rarely been a clue as to who will eventually take home the trophies at the Oscars.
