Britney Spears can finally take a deep breath after a court ruled to remove her father, Jamie Spears, after 13 years as her guardian with immediate effect.

Britney Spears, 39, has finally regained her independence. After 13 years of guardianship and several months of contentious legal proceedings, Britney Spears’ father, Jamie Spears, 69, was suspended as his daughter’s guardian. Judge Brenda Penny made the decision in Los Angeles on Wednesday, September 29, according to People Magazine and Daily Mail.

“This decision is in Britney Spear’s best interests, which is my goal,” the judge said in a statement. Britney’s new attorney, Mathew Rosengart, accused Jamie Spears of “cruel” and “offensive” acts against his daughter. He justified his request for Jamie Spear’s immediate suspension by saying that the singer’s basic freedoms should now be urgently restored. “Every additional day under her father’s tutelage means fear and harm for his daughter,” said Rosengart.

However, Britney’s attorney admitted that his client deserves an orderly transition. Tax advisor John Zabel, who will temporarily help the singer with her finances until December 31 of this year, will act as interim guardian to arrange Britney’s affairs. Rosengart believes Jamie Spears has unlawfully enriched his daughter’s accounts. Jamie is rumored to be addicted to gambling and alcohol. “I am convinced that we will find evidence of corruption. This man does not belong in her life for another day,” said Rosengart. Vivian Thoreen, Jamie Spears’ attorney, made the following statement: “Mr. Spears has not spoken to his daughter in many months, but he would like to. Everything Jamie has done is in her best interests.”

Britney herself wrote on Instagram in July on the subject: “This guardianship killed my dreams. So all I have is hope and hope is the only thing in this world that is very difficult to kill.” Now the singer can be sure to breathe a sigh of relief because her great wish has finally come true. After the announcement of the dismissal of Jamie Spears, Britney’s fiancé Sam Asghari, 27, posted on his Instagram story: “Free Britney! Congratulations!!!” Britney herself is literally on “cloud nine”, as she writes on Instagram and is celebrating her regained freedom with a flight lesson.
