Surprising end to Britney Spears’ legal dispute with her father: she has to pay his legal fees.
The years-long legal dispute between singer Britney Spears (42) and her father Jamie Spears (71) has surprisingly been settled. Like that US portal “TMZ” reported that the singer has to pay her father around two million dollars for his legal fees. Jamie Spears had guardianship of his famous daughter for 13 years, which she took legal action against. In 2021, the court decided to end the guardianship that had existed since 2008. But the family feud wasn’t over yet – because father and daughter continued to argue about legal fees.
Britney Spears is said to be “angry”.
According to TMZ, Jamie Spears surprisingly won’t pay a cent, but Britney Spears will cover his legal fees. Insiders claim the singer is “furious” about the tacit agreement. Because her lawyer had previously assured her that she was on the safe side. The whole process was very expensive for the pop star: she paid her lawyer four million US dollars, plus the two million to her father.
The lawyers of both parties confirmed to the US magazine “People”, that the agreement was reached on April 25 in Los Angeles Superior Court. “Although the conservatorship ended in November 2021, her wish for freedom is now truly fulfilled,” Britney Spears’ attorney Mathew S. Rosengart said in a statement. “As she has wished, her freedom now includes no longer being required to appear in court or participate in or be involved in any legal proceedings in this matter.”
Jamie Spears’ attorney Alex Weingarten said the two parties had “reached a settlement agreement that resolves all outstanding disputes.” He continued: “I can’t comment on the details as the settlement is confidential. Jamie is thrilled that it’s all behind him. He loves his daughter very much and all he’s ever done is protect her and to support.”
“Love heals everything”
On her Instagram page The singer reported the news about the surprising agreement with a posting that suggested conciliatory words. Alongside the picture of a wine bottle, she wrote: “Someday you will understand that love heals everything and that’s all there is.” Then she added: “And real wine also feels extremely nice.”
