Gigabyte has unveiled the newcomers to its line of Brix mini-PCs, soberly called Extreme. They embed one of Intel’s 12th generation processors in an ultra-compact case.
Mini-PCs are not legion on the market, but they are a very practical solution for those who need a desktop computer without the hassle of a huge case. They are found at all prices, often silent and transportable if necessary. They embed components suitable for different uses ranging from office automation to more intense loads. These mini-PCs nevertheless sin by the absence of a dedicated graphics card – this requires orientation at least towards mini-ITX solutions.

Intel Alder Lake processors on the program
Gigabyte still wants to offer high-flying mini-PCs integrating the latest 12th generation Intel Alder Lake processors in its Brix Extreme, new models that complement its Brix range. Equipped with a choice of a mobile version of the Core i3, Core i5 or Core i7, they also house SSD storage (expandable) and DDR4 RAM, as well as a multitude of ports at the front and rear: five USB- A 3.2, two HDMI, two USB-C 3.2 (including one DisplayPort compatible), an Ethernet and a mini-jack socket, all accompanied by wifi 6E.

Two versions of the computer will be sold, a thin 44 x 134 x 139 mm and another a little taller, leaving more space to add a 2.5-inch SSD or HDD. The manufacturer announces very quiet operation of barely 30 dB using demanding software, and 35 dB by activating Boost mode to benefit from maximum performance on the processor side. This notably involves increasing the energy envelope of the processor so as to maintain higher operating frequencies.
The prices of the different Brix Extreme configurations are not yet known, but their marketing is scheduled for the second quarter of 2022.
