Bronzer: how to use it properly

Make-up professionals love bronzers – because they make the complexion look so beautiful after vacation and can give the face more contour. It's very easy if you pay attention to a few things.

Which tone is right for me?

Basically: lBetter lighter than too dark so that the complexion doesn't look artificial. You are right with a bronzer that is a maximum of two shades darker than your own skin tone. The skin type also plays a role. Which are you? Look at the inside of your wrist: If the veins shimmer bluish, you are a cool guy and should go for cold nuances. If they have a green shimmer, you are a warm type and corresponding tones are best.

Finger or brush?

Both are possible with cream bronzes or sticks. Advantage fingers: The body heat increases the lubricity of the products – they can be better distributed and bonded to the skin. This can make the job easier, especially with natural cosmetics, which do not contain any silicone. With powdery bronzes, it is best to use a wide, fluffy brush to fake the sun-kissed complexion. "Contours are set with a narrow, slightly angled brush," explains make-up artist Agnes Hesselbach. So that there are no hard edges, be sure to blend in afterwards.

Where do I apply it?

It depends what you want. For a light summer tan, the color is applied to the raised areas of the face. It becomes as natural as possible when you touch the Cheekbones Stroke towards your nose. Bridge of nose and hairline do not forget. If you want to give your face more contour, advises Agnes Hesselbach, National Make-up Artist at Bobbi Brown: "Brush on the color below the cheekbones. A touch of tan on both sides of the nose makes it appear narrower, the same applies to Chin and jaw line."Finally, gently blend everything in. Bronzers are also ideal as eye shadows, so the make-up stays in one color family.

How does the look survive hot temperatures?

For a better hold Fixing spray about make-up – or do basic work and with one Primer start. One for oily skin matting base take, which absorbs excess fat and makes the pores look smaller. A moisturizing product makes normal or dry skin glow. Which texture suits my skin?

Dry likes creamy or liquid products, which at the same time also provide moisture and care. Cream bronzer give the complexion a light glow and look particularly natural when dabbed well. For oily skin is one Powder bronze Perfect without gloss pigments – it also mattes a bit. If you have normal skin, any texture is suitable.

Which make-up looks the most beautiful for a brush tan?

Very important for playing with light and shadow: a highlighter, the counterpart of the bronzer. It brightens up areas and thereby brings them out. For more contour, shiny accents are placed on the cheekbones, under the browbones, in the inner corner of the eye and on the Cupid's arch, i.e. the indentation of the upper lip. A strong statement: a matt lipstick in a bright color.
