Brother found camera – Tyrol: Missing photographed his own death

A tragedy like something out of a movie took place on Saturday in the Lechtal Alps in Tyrol. A man has been missing there since last October. Nine months after his disappearance, his brother found the missing person’s camera. This led the rescue workers to the body of the 57-year-old in the municipality of Nassereith (Reutte district) – and gave information about what might have happened to the missing person.

The local has been missing since October 18. It was assumed that the 57-year-old had set out on a mountain tour in the Lechtal Alps and something had happened to him. Since Saturday there has been sad certainty: the man is dead. Although all searches have so far been unsuccessful, his brother did not want to give up the search for the missing person and finally came across his camera on Saturday afternoon. The camera was positioned on a Steinmandl on the Mittlerer Kreuzjoch. Man fell 100 meters into the depths As was shown by the evaluation of the pictures, the 57-year-old should have taken a picture of himself using the self-timer – according to the police exactly at the moment when he was around Plunged 100 meters over steep, rocky terrain. The brother called the emergency services. The crew of the police helicopter finally found the body of the victim. He was recovered with a rope and flown into the valley. The public prosecutor ordered an autopsy.
