Bruno Le Maire announces its continuation until 2025, Actualité/Actu Quotidien

Surprise announcement by the Minister of the Economy in favor of purchasing power: on RTL, this Friday, Bruno Le Maire declared that he wanted to maintain the tariff shield of regulated electricity tariffs until 2025, while that gas prices – frozen since October 2021, then limited to +15% since January 1, 2023 – will disappear “ from this year “.

THE shield on the price of gas is no longer necessary [dans la mesure où] prices have returned to what they were before the crisis […]50 euros per megawatt/hour “Said the minister on LCI, who however did not specify whether this disappearance will be faster than expected, the current tariff shield normally running until the end of 2023.

Bruno Le Maire also explained that he ” measured the concerns that there are on the invoices [de gaz]. They are too complicated […] I will bring together Engie and a number of gas suppliers to ask them for simplified invoices so that our compatriots can find their way around “. A meeting which will take place in the next few days “, For ” simplify all this, enlighten the consumer “.

Regarding electricity prices, on the other hand, the State’s tariff protection will continue until 2025: “ NOTWe are going to take longer to get out of the shield of electricity. Je gives us two years, by early 2025, to exit the electricity shield “, whose prices remain for their part” very high “.

While prices on the wholesale electricity market in France have fallen significantly since last year, by around 50%, to just over €110 per MWh of electricity, prices still remain higher than observed levels. in 2020, and in the first half of 2021, where they had not exceeded €85.

The energy price shield, which protected French households from a large part of inflation in 2022, had been put in place in October 2021 for gas (with the freezing of regulated prices) and in February 2022 for electricity (with prices capped at +4%).

These measures, which are very costly for the State (which covers the difference with the operators), had already been relaxed at the start of the year: the cap rose to +15% on January 1 for gas prices, then February 1 for those in electricity.
