The U.S. Climate Act (IRA), which is causing so much tremor in Europe, will no doubt be the elephant in the room when European Commission representatives – executive vice-presidents Valdis Dombrovskis and Margrethe Vestager – meet in the United States on Monday. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Foreign Trade Representative Katherine Tai and Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo for the third meeting of the Trade and Technology Council.
Friday, during the briefings devoted to this meeting, the officials of the Commission made a point of honor to evacuate all the questions on the subsidies envisaged in this American law. However, there is talk of 200 billion dollars in subsidies and tax credits reserved exclusively for productions located in the United States. And this, in key industries such as electric cars, wind power and green hydrogen.
