BSE instead of BSW
Scholz amuses the Greens with slip of the tongue

There is actually little to laugh about at the moment for both the Greens and the Social Democrats. However, an appearance by the Chancellor is causing amusement among the coalition partner.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz caused laughter with a slip of the tongue at a Green Party party. In his speech at the Bundestag faction’s summer reception in Berlin, the SPD politician said that there was great support for Ukraine in Germany, both among the population and in the Bundestag. “But it is very remarkable that the faction BSE…” – here Scholz corrected himself – “BSW completely…”.

The Chancellor did not get any further because he was interrupted by laughter from those present. “That was a slip of the tongue!” stressed Scholz, who wanted to refer to the Sahra Wagenknecht alliance and not to the cattle disease. BSE is the short form of bovine spongiform encephalopathy – popularly known as mad cow disease.

Scholz criticized BSW and the majority of the AfD for demonstratively missing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selensky’s speech in the Bundestag. However, given that both parties had positioned themselves against supporting Ukraine during the election campaign, their absence was also consistent.
