BTS celebrate the premiere of their new song “Butter” on May 21st. They seem to have already broken the first record on YouTube.

BTS are already on record course again – and that with their new English-language single “Butter”. The seven boys from South Korea released their new song on May 21 at 6:00 a.m. German time. At the time of the premiere, over 3.89 million people tuned into YouTube – a new record! The video platform has not yet confirmed the milestone, but the fans of the group (also affectionately known as ARMY) are already celebrating on social media. YouTube usually reports the exact numbers a few hours to days later.

BTS would have to break their own record

A new record does not seem unlikely. After all, the current record holders are BTS itself. In August 2020, RM (26), Jin (28), Suga (28), J-Hope (27), Jimin (25), V (25) and Jungkook (23) published their first English-language single “Dynamite”. At that time, around three million people watched the premiere. With 101.1 million YouTube views in the first 24 hours, they then set another record. Previously this was held by the South Korean girl group Blackpink (86.3 million views).

BTS made their debut in 2013 under the South Korean label BigHit. They received their first prize at a Korean music show in 2015 with the hit “I Need You”. In 2019 the musicians embarked on a major stadium tour – the pop stars filled London’s Wembley Stadium twice. In 2020 they were nominated for a Grammy in the category “Best Performance by a Group / Duo”. At the time of the article, “Butter” had 58 million clicks on YouTube (as of 2:30 pm).
