Budapest to Vienna horror train trip: couple left out in the cold

With a six and a half hour delay in Vienna! For the Dacho couple, the journey home from Budapest became torture!

Terrible end to a lovely weekend: Mr. and Mrs. Dacho from Klosterneuburg treated themselves to a lovely time in Budapest, and the couple returned on Monday afternoon. But the travel nightmare began after the first stop. Two hours without lights and heating in the compartment “Suddenly the train braked in an emergency and stopped moving. Announcements were only in Hungarian – we were made to wait in the compartment for two hours without lights or heating.” Until the couple was put on an overcrowded bus and chauffeured to a small station in the middle of nowhere. Where, after another hour of waiting, the two were finally able to take the Railjet towards Vienna. But the joy only lasted as far as the border: “In Hyegeshalom it was said again: ‘Train ends here’ – get off! Again we had to wait for another train. This one was late too. And we were left out in the cold.” Packs of Mannerschnitten as compensation After two in the morning, the couple arrived at Vienna Central Station, drained and frozen to the bone. “We complained – but since we had no written confirmation of the cancellations, we received two packs of Mannerschnitten from ÖBB and, as a gesture of goodwill, 57 euros in compensation. We had paid 115 euros for the return trip”…
