Manuel Bompard, deputy La France insoumise of the 4th constituency of Bouches-du-Rhône, was the guest of Dimitri Pavlenko this Friday morning. Asked about the debates around the 2023 finance bill, the deputy wondered if the National Assembly “was not working for nothing”, while the threat of the use of 49-3 by the government hovers.
It is a slap that the government took this week in the National Assembly. Against his will, the hemicycle voted in favor of a tax on “super dividends”. If the RN and LFI deputies voted unsurprisingly, “for”, among the ranks of the majority, the “no” is far from having unanimous support. For Manuel Bompard, this vote underlines the division of the Renaissance party: “The majority is extremely weakened and divided”, he supports at the microphone of Europe 1.
“Major Defeat”
And for good reason, this amendment was tabled by a MoDem deputy, an allied party of the majority. Worse, the Horizons deputies, also included allies of Renaissance, abstained and 19 deputies of the government majority voted in favor of this new tax.
“When you only have 88 deputies who follow the minister’s advice in the National Assembly, it’s a major defeat for Emmanuel Macron and his government,” said the LFI deputy. But will this setback push the government a little more to use article 49-3 in the context of the finance bill?
The shadow of 49-3
“The threat of 49-3 has been on the budget review since it started on Monday,” annoys Manuel Bompard. “And besides, that raises a democratic question”, assures the LFI deputy. “Since the beginning, we keep asking the question on which text the government intends to use 49-3?”
“So we wonder if he will use it on the budget with the amendments voted by the Assembly or if he will use it on his own text? This is a major subject because parliamentary work is continuing for the moment. “, explains Manuel Bompard. And to conclude: “The question finally, is that the Assembly works for nothing or is that the work it does, will be used for something?”
