Build Your Dreams S9 – China dream: 1100 hp super sports car at a competitive price?

Build Your Dreams, BYD for short, is the name of a Chinese car manufacturer that is also launching on the Austrian market these days. So far, the statement of the brand name has remained quite weak in the face of fairly ordinary vehicles. But now the group has announced a super sports car – at a price suitable for dream fulfillment.

Specifically, BYD has announced the first two models of its luxury brand Yangwang – the large SUV U8 and the supercar U9, both priced around one million rinminbi (yuan). At today’s exchange rate, that’s about 14,000 euros. Even if transport and taxes are added to the equation, this price is a challenge that is reinforced by BYD’s announcement that it will only use cutting-edge technology for this brand. Both vehicles roll on the same platform, dubbed the e4 platform because of the four electric motors. They should provide properties that should be superior to those of classic concepts with combustion engines. The electrics can react faster and more specifically, emphasized BYD President Wang Chuanfu at the presentation of the two models in Shenzhen, China. The four motors have an output of around 1100 hp. With the super sports car U9, this should ensure acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in two seconds. When it comes to braking performance, BYD is more modest. The vehicles should stand from 100 km/h to 0 after 40 meters. The SUV U8, which is five meters long and two meters wide, is said to be well secured against water ingress on Fords. BYD is planning to set up a special sales network for the Yangwang brand. The brand should thus stand out from the rest and be able to react more quickly to the wishes of the markets thanks to its independence. It remains to be seen what will actually be on the price tag when it comes to Europe. (awm)
