Bulgaria: explosion in a military factory, one dead and two missing

An explosion which occurred Tuesday, October 4 in a Bulgarian arms and pyrotechnics factory caused the death of an employee while two women are still missing, according to an initial report put forward by the prosecution.

The incident, presumably due tonon-compliance with safety rulesaccording to the investigators, took place within the pyrotechnics department of a factory of the Arsenal group in the locality of Kazanlak (Center). The blast from the explosion instantly killed a 55-year-old worker, while his two colleagues, 53 and 43, who were working at the same time on the same production line, are wanted.

The hope that they survived seems slim“Said a prosecutor, Todor Deyanov, while the risks of retaliation are not ruled out because of the explosives remaining on the site. Another woman was seriously injured. In 2020, an explosion had already occurred within the units of this company, but at another production site. The prosecution then mentioned a link between this incident and the stay in Bulgaria of six Russian nationals, trying to prevent arms deliveries to Ukraine and Georgia.
