In the age of AI, this technology is infusing into almost every field, including dating apps. Bumble for example adds AI to its application, and no, this is not about chatting or dating with a chatbot.
On Tuesday, Bumble announced its new deception detector, which leverages AI to help identify fake profiles, scams or spam on the app. And this is before users even come into contact with the profile itself, according to the press release.
Deception Detector uses a machine learning-based model to assess the authenticity of profiles, with a high success rate. Bumble’s tests showed that Deception Detector blocked 95% of accounts identified by the company as spam or scam profiles.
Tinder is also getting AI
In the first two months after introducing this technology, Bumble claims to have seen a 45% decrease in reports of spam, scams and fake accounts from its members.
Fake profiles and scams are a real problem on dating sites. In the United States, the FTC reports that between 2017 and 2021, $1.3 billion was lost to romance scams, many of which started on dating apps. Bumble claims that 46% of women express concern about the authenticity of the online profiles they match with on dating apps.

To start taking advantage of the tool, simply continue using your account as you usually do. The model is also assisted by Bumble’s team of human moderators.
The addition of Bumble’s AI follows Tinder’s addition of AI-powered user alerts on Monday. Tinder’s technology detects violations of the Community Guidelines and provides warnings to users explaining why their behavior in the app violates the Guidelines and what the consequences will be if they continue to behave in this way;
