Bahn reports significantly more attacks on staff

Deutsche Bahn counted more than 3,000 attacks on its staff last year. Compared to 2021, this is a significant increase. The group not only cites the enforcement of the corona measures as the cause.

Attacks on Deutsche Bahn employees have increased significantly in the past year. In 2022, there were a total of 3,138 attacks on employees, the company told the newspapers of the Funke media group. That was an increase of more than 20 percent compared to 2021.

The majority of the reported incidents were said to be simple physical injuries such as bumping, hitting and spitting. They account for 79 percent of assaults. According to Bahn, around 15 percent were attempted attacks. With a share of around 6 percent, serious physical injuries were the exception rather than the rule. About half of all attacks affected train personnel in regional transport.

According to Bahn, one of the main reasons for the attacks was a dispute over the enforcement of the corona protection measures. In addition, more football fans were out and about again and there were particularly full trains during the three-month period of the nine-euro ticket.
