We’ve had a strong partnership with Bungie since the launch of the Destiny franchise, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to officially welcome the studio to the PlayStation family.
This is an important step in our strategy to expand PlayStation’s reach to a much wider audience. We understand how vital the Bungie community is to them and look forward to supporting them as they remain independent and continue to grow. Like Bungie, our community is at the heart of PlayStation’s DNA, and our shared passion for the gamer and creating the best place to play will continue to evolve.
Bungie will be headed by several directors, including the CEO Pete Parsons, so there won’t be any big changes internally. The latter also commented on the takeover of his studio:
Bungie and SIE both believe that game worlds are just the beginning of what our franchise will become. Our original universes have immense potential, and with the support of SIE, we will propel Bungie into a global multimedia entertainment company dedicated to publishing our creative vision.
The studio’s ambitions do not stop in the middle of video games, Bungie had already announced it, and the takeover by sony should give him the means to achieve them.
