PSG keeper Donnarumma endures night of horrors

The Italian national soccer goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma experiences a night of terror: Several perpetrators break into the house of the PSG keeper, overpower and tie him up and flee with a loot worth 500,000 euros. Donnarumma and his partner have to go to the hospital.

Paris Saint-Germain’s Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and his partner were the victims of an attack and a break-in at their home in the 8th arrondissement of the French capital last night. The AFP news agency learned this from a source familiar with the matter.

The 24-year-old keeper and his girlfriend were tied up while the perpetrators stole loot (watches, jewelry, luxury leather goods) estimated at around €500,000 before fleeing. AFP further reported that the couple were tied up and threatened with a gun, the nature of which was not disclosed. Donnarumma was slightly injured (no details given), his partner was physically unharmed.

A special unit of the Paris criminal police was commissioned to investigate. The Paris prosecutor’s office said that investigations into organized gang theft with weapons, organized deprivation of liberty and aggravated violence have been launched. The French Penal Code provides for a maximum penalty of thirty years in prison for these crimes.

Series of incursions on PSG stars

After the attack, Donnarumma and his partner managed to flee to a luxury hotel near their home. Hotel staff alerted the police and took care of the couple, who were in shock and taken to a hospital. The keeper was due to play a friendly against Le Havre this afternoon (5pm) and travel to Japan on Saturday where PSG are completing their pre-season tour. Whether the Italian can stick to his regular plans is not known.

Several PSG players or ex-players have already been victims of burglaries in recent years, mostly in their absence: Presnel Kimpembe, Marquinhos, Thiago Silva, Ángel Di María, Dani Alves, Sergio Rico or Mauro Icardi. Bayern striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting was also robbed during his time in Paris. In January, the criminal court in Versailles sentenced two men to prison for breaking into Marquinhos in March 2021. In February, two other people were sentenced by the Criminal Court in Nanterre to three and four years in prison without parole for robbing Di María’s home in March 2021.
