DAKAR (Reuters) – Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, president of the movement that led Monday’s military coup in Burkina Faso, is a relatively unknown lieutenant-colonel tasked last December with overseeing security in Ouagadougou.
Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba published a book last June analyzing “the particularities of West African terrorism”, according to the website of his publishing house.
The lieutenant-colonel studied at the military school in Paris and holds a master’s degree in criminal sciences from the National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts (CNAM), according to his publisher, Trois Colonnes.
The Patriotic Movement for Safeguarding and Restoration (MPSR) announced on Monday that it had deposed President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, suspended the Constitution, dissolved the government and the National Assembly and closed the country’s borders, facing, according to them, a “degradation continue” of his safety.
