(Reuters) – A Myanmar court sentenced former leader Aung San Suu Kyi to a further seven years in prison on Friday on five counts of corruption, a source familiar with the proceedings said.

In a closed hearing, the court found Aung San Suu Kyi, arrested during the military junta’s coup in February 2021, guilty of offenses related to the rental and use of a helicopter when she was the de facto ruler of Burma, the source said.

The source declined to be identified due to the sensitivity of the issue. A junta spokesman could not immediately be reached for comment.

Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi has previously been sentenced to at least 26 years in prison in other cases, mostly related to corruption charges.

She denies all the charges against her.
