Burma-State of emergency extended for six months-official media

Aug 1 (Reuters) – The head of Burma’s ruling junta, Min Aung Hlaing, will extend a six-month state of emergency in the country, state media reported on Monday.

The Burmese junta declared a state of emergency after the military coup of February 1, 2021. This coup ousted the democratically elected leader Aug San Suu Kyi after a decade of democratic reforms which allowed the opening of this country from long isolated Southeast Asia.

“Members (of the Security Council) unanimously approved the proposal to extend the duration of the state of emergency for another six months,” the Global New Light of Myanmar daily reported.

The military coup plunged the country into chaos, triggering a large protest movement.
