bus, metro, RER, tram… Tips to avoid rising prices

As the Olympic Games draw closer, we now know the new prices that will apply for public transport. And bad news, prices have exploded. Fortunately, there are alternatives to pay less.

The price has just been revealed: 5 euros, compared to 2.50 euros normally… Forgetting to take your bus ticket before getting on will cost twice as much during the Olympic Games in Paris and will force users to pay for two single tickets at 2.50 euros.

We already knew the other prices for public transport, they also saw an increase: 4 euros for a single ticket sold at the counter (2.15 euros today), 6 euros for a train and RER ticket outside Paris (compared to 5 euros usually), 16 euros for a bus ticket to go to Roissy or Orly…

Buy your transport tickets before July 20

Metro, bus, RER, tram… To avoid this increase, the watchword will be anticipation, by purchasing your tickets before the fateful date of July 20, at a ticket office, or online. Several options: if you plan to make several journeys, the Libert + subscription can be a solution to avoid paying the high price. It allows you to take the metro, bus and tram, while being charged at the end of the month, depending on the journeys made (1.73 euros per ticket). And its price will not change during the Olympics. Please note, if you already have this card, you can often recharge it directly via your phone.

Another possibility for these tickets called t+, which allows you to travel around Paris, by metro, RER, and in le-de-France on certain bus lines. They can be purchased and presented by opting for a Navigo Easy pass (2 euros) or directly via a smartphone, with the Bonjour RATP application (2.15 euros per ticket). A solution which has the advantage of not requiring travel to purchase tickets.

Prices for monthly plans are not changing

If you are going to travel very many times during this period and beyond, it may be more interesting to choose a monthly Navigo pass (86.40 euros), the prices of which will not be modified. However, it will be impossible to purchase a Navigo package for the day or the week.

No change either for packages reserved for students (Imagine R), as well as for elderly or disabled people (Amthyste) and for beneficiaries of social rates. In total, 5 million Ile-de-France residents already have a subscription.

And for those who witness the evidence?

The Paris 2024 pass, a package 16euros per day and 70euros per week, will allow you to travel around Paris and its region, to all the games sites, and to Roissy and Orly airports. It will be sold from July 20 to September 8, 2024 and can be purchased in advance. A few free shuttles will also bring spectators to remote competition sites.
