Album dispute with Fler ends up in court
Bushido in a courtroom? Not a rare sight in the past few months. But this time it is not about a testimony in the trial against Arafat Abou-Chaker. The rapper is also fighting with a former companion, but this time there is even more music in the argument.
Anis Ferchichi alias Bushido, 42, now seems to feel at home in the premises of the German judiciary. The rapper has sat in courtrooms as a witness and co-plaintiff for 25 days in the past few months. On Tuesday (July 20, 2021) he will experience a comeback. But this time it’s not about his former business partner Arafat Abou-Chaker, but about a colleague who is no longer in a friendly sense: Bushido argues with the rapper Patrick Losensky alias Fler, 39, about rights to an album title.
Bushido doesn’t want to share the album title
Background: 19 years ago, the two musicians released the joint album “Carlo Cokxxx Nutten” (CCN) on the Aggro Berlin label. A characteristic feature is the logo: an opened butterfly knife surrounded by a saw blade. Up until 2015, Bushido produced three more CCNs -Albums, not always with the participation of Fler. Now the brother-in-law of pop singer Sarah Connor, 41, wants to get back to the album title. “CCN5” should come out this year. But now his former colleague gets in his way: Fler would also like to publish under the title.
Bushido complains against it. He wants to have Fler forbid the use of the name with the help of an injunction. According to “Bild”, this involves an amount in dispute of 100,000 euros.
Highest security measures for Bushido, a free place for Fler
So Bushido has to go to court again – and under the highest security conditions. Police officers with balaclavas secure the aisles of the Littenstrasse district court in Berlin. The rapper has seen himself in constant danger since his business separation from Arafat Abou-Chaker. No one goes out from Fler that day. He doesn’t even show up in the courtroom, but sends his lawyer. “In the end I am provoked and hit the ceiling,” he is said to have said before the trial.
Bushido, on the other hand, wants clarity and explains the reason for his efforts to reach a legal decision. “CCN has been registered as a trademark since April 19, 2021. Fler often flirted with releasing an album like this. I never took it seriously until I found it in the Amazon online shop.” Fler, on the other hand, apparently sees himself as the intellectual creator of the album : “I wrote the lyrics and rapped it back then, and then the album got its title.”
A children’s birthday is more pleasant
The judge also has a preliminary opinion on the legal dispute: “Bushido created the beats, but the text was written together. In rap, the text is in the foreground. They created the brand together, Bushido has no older rights than Fler. You can yes, release both albums under the same title – or neither. Or both together one album. ” A suggestion that Bushido has no use for: “I would find that too one-sided at my expense … If we at least had a neutral relationship, but that’s not the way it is,” he interjects.
The dispute is not resolved that day. The judge does not want to announce his decision until Thursday at the earliest. Bushido is still patient on this day. After all, there are more important things: his daughter was celebrating her birthday.
