Business at the border – several apprehensions: Refugees brave the cold

Despite the falling temperatures, the number of apprehensions on the Burgenland-Hungarian border continues to persist. Yesterday a number of young men were stopped again by police officers and army soldiers.

Temperatures now drop to almost freezing point at night. However, the cold does not prevent the refugees from continuing their arduous journey to Austria. Exhausted, soaked, shivering and smeared with dirt because of the damp earth, the mostly young men appear in the communities near the border. This was also the case yesterday. Numerous arrests at several locations17 migrants were sighted by passers-by in the morning hours as they wandered around Großpetersdorf. The 16 Afghans and one Indian were then stopped by the police. In Rechnitz, only a few kilometers away, there were also apprehensions. Citizens had noticed several migrants and the police officers who had been notified found four Turks, one Iraqi and six Afghans. There were also other seizures in the Oberpullendorf district. The migrants applied for asylum. For reasons of capacity, they were taken by bus to an initial reception center in Carinthia.
