Business creations: is Emmanuel Macron’s balance sheet so flattering?

THE CHEKING PROCESS – Emmanuel Macron regularly believes that he has a positive record in terms of business creations and business failures. Do the latest figures prove him right?

THE QUESTION. Not yet a candidate for the presidential election, Emmanuel Macron regularly highlights his economic and social record, which he presents in a particularly positive way. This was particularly the case in December, on TF1 and LCI, facing Darius Rochebin and Audrey Crespo-Mara: the president then engaged in an operation of self-satisfecit of which he has the secret. “We have never created so many companies, we have never had so few bankruptcies”, had thus hammered the Head of State on the results of his action 4 months before the renewal of his mandate.

Published this Friday, January 14, the latest figures from INSEE on the balance sheet for the year 2021 seem to prove the President of the Republic right: the trend over the year is positive, with a number of companies created “up sharply“. But what can we think of these figures, what do they really show? Is the balance sheet so positive, or do the data hide other realities?
