Derby time! Villach receives the decimated KAC with seven absentees – after the first third, the VSV is also 2-0 ahead. Thanks to a dream goal by Chris Collins and a deflected Richter shot.
After KAC was still able to play along, VSV increasingly settled in the attacking third over the course of the first third. And that’s how we got the 1-0 lead. After a long phase of pressure, Hughes and Mattinen released storm ace Chris Collins perfectly – and he hit the short cross corner wonderfully (9th). Shortly after a power play, Villach’s ex-KAC crack Marco Richter made it 2-0 in the minute: he shot and the puck went in from KAC defender Strong’s shoe and was unstoppable. So it went into the cabin for the first time.
