Polish ski jumpers are allowed to start
Positive, negative, negative: because the corona tests for Polish ski jumper Klemens Muranka turn out like this, his team can now compete in the Four Hills Tournament. This also brings two favorites back into the competition. This has consequences for the mode.
Poland's ski jumpers can now take part in the opening competition of the 69th Four Hills Tournament. The organizers and the world federation FIS announced this on Tuesday morning at a joint press conference. Previously, another series of tests for the corona virus had been negative for the Poles. Defending champion Dawid Kubacki and the two-time tour winner Kamil Stoch can start the competition on Tuesday afternoon.
"We are extremely happy with the good news of the negative test results and the associated start clearance for the Polish team. We have therefore made the decision to start the first round today with the entire field and not to evaluate yesterday's qualification", explained FIS race director Sandro Pertile.
The Poles were excluded from qualifying in Oberstdorf on Monday after their jumper Klemens Muranka tested positive. The Oberallgäu health department then classified Muranka's teammates as "contact group 1" and imposed a quarantine. After repeated negative tests at Muranka and his teammates, this has now been canceled.
"When all the negative results are available, the Polish national team is immediately released from the authorities' point of view. The health department is in contact with the team and advised them on sensible and necessary protective measures," said Dr. Ludwig Walters, Medical Director of the Oberallgäu Health Department.
Due to the "false positive" rated test, the FIS judged the exclusion from the qualification as not justified. The competition now begins at 4.30 p.m. with 62 starters without a knockout system, the result of the qualification on Monday is therefore invalid. The Polish team also has the option of doing a training jump.
