But no start in Mugello: Schumacher has to wait for F1 debut

A Schumacher in Formula 1, that's what many fans of the motorsport premier class long for. But contrary to the original information from our RTL / ntv editorial team, 21-year-old Mick will not make his debut in Mugello at the weekend. The plans for his ascent, however, remain.

Mick Schumacher still has to wait for his Formula 1 debut. Contrary to our original information, the 21-year-old will not start in the premier class at the Grand Prix of Tuscany in Mugello next weekend. A deployment in a free practice session is at least planned for this season. In the medium term, the son of record world champion Michael Schumacher will then also be promoted completely from Formula 2.

Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto only revealed these plans in mid-August in an interview with "Bild am Sonntag". "He's doing very well this season. His job was to improve and make progress. He's doing that. We'll discuss what we're going to do with him next year," he said. The 21-year-old belongs to the Italian youth academy. The next logical step would be "first of all a smaller Formula 1 team where he can get to know everything and then slowly move up," continued Binotto. The customer teams of Scuderia Alfa Romeo and Haas would be possible.

Schumacher, who won a race in Monza last week, is second overall in Formula 2 with eight races to go, with only six points separating him from UK leader Callum Ilott (Uni-Virtuosi Racing). Three Ferrari juniors are fighting for the championship in the substructure of Formula 1: Ilott (149 points) leads Schumacher (143) and his Russian team-mate Robert Schwarzman (140). All three hope for promotion to Formula 1.
