But not first choice at Lazio: Klose considered as coach at his former club

But not first choice at Lazio
Klose considered as coach at his former club

Miroslav Klose does not yet have much experience as a coach, but a top club is considering signing him. Lazio Rome could bring their former player to the sidelines. However, the German record goalscorer is not the favorite for the job.

Lazio Rome has parted ways with coach Igor Tudor after just a few months and, according to Italian media, is considering former football world champion Miroslav Klose as his successor. The Serie A club announced the departure of the 46-year-old Croatian – just three months after he took over the job from Maurizio Sarri.

Klose is a possible candidate for the position of head coach, reported media such as “La Gazzetta dello Sport” and the broadcaster RAI. He was a goal-scoring player for Lazio from 2011 until his retirement in 2016, so he knows the club very well. However, the former German striker is not the first choice. Because he has hardly any experience on the sidelines, Marco Baroni is the actual preferred candidate. However, Baroni still has a contract with Hellas Verona and has been negotiating a transfer with first division club AC Monza for days.

However, Klose could benefit if Baroni and Lazio do not find a common ground; he is said to be the first alternative. The 45-year-old from the Palatinate has so far only worked as head coach in Austria for SCR Altach. There he was sacked after 24 competitive matches when Altach was in the middle of a relegation battle. When Sarri unexpectedly resigned from his position three months ago, Klose was already among the candidates for his successor. Klose himself believed he could take the job at his former club. “Yes, of course. I can be there tomorrow. I would do it,” said the record goalscorer for the German national team.

Tudor was actually successful with Lazio, he managed to qualify for the Europa League. Of his eleven competitive games with the club, he lost just two, winning six and drawing three. His contract would have run until 2025, but according to Sky Sport Italia, different opinions about the direction of the club were the main reason for the split.
